MOST WOULD RATHER BE RICHER THAN THINNER, YOUNGER, OR SMARTER
It looks like more people would rather change their finances than their physique. A new Adweek Media/Harris Poll asks folks whether they want to be “richer,” “thinner,” “smarter,” or “younger,” and most are saying “richer.” Nearly 45-percent note they would like to see the number in their bank accounts go up, while just 21-percent would prefer to see the number on the scale go down. Fourteen-percent say the number they’d pick for an increase is their IQ, while 12-percent wish they could make the number of candles on their birthday cake shrink. Nine-percent note they wouldn’t change these aspects of their lives.
More men would rather be rich while more women would like to be thinner. Just over 45-percent of guys say they desire more money compared to 41-percent of women, while 29-percent of the ladies but just 14-percent of the guys would like to be thinner. But the survey shows more men than women would rather be younger. Sixteen-percent of the guys wish they could shave off a few years, while just eight-percent of the women feel the same. There’s no gender discrepancy among those who want to be more intelligent.

25% OF MEN CARRY STUFFED ANIMALS WHEN THEY TRAVEL!
As many as one in every four grown men travel with a teddy bear or other stuffed animal. In the last 12 months, British hotel chain Travelodge has reunited more than 75,000 bears with the owners. Struck by the massive number, the company investigated, and discovered that 35 percent of adults admitted they sleep with their stuffed animal because they found cuddling it comforting. Hope you’re staying dry as the rain continues to fall today. I couldn’t believe how long and how hard it was coming down yesterday. Just non-stop! Made for a great veg day. Just stayed indoors, watched some movies, and made some really good salsa with a few of the roma tomatoes that are just coming into season in my garden. Very exciting! But at least Saturday was nice and dry. My wife and I were helping out at the Habitat for Humanity house in Cortland. Just to let you know if you are interested in lending a hand, they are always in need of help. Two houses are being built this year, one in Dryden and one in Cortland. The work schedules and volunteer information can all be found at www.tchabitat.com. Give a few hours, give a whole day or give several days. It all makes a difference and feels so good!

“AMERICAN IDOL” VIEWERS WATCH FOR THE SINGERS, NOT THE JUDGES
It might not make much difference who the new judges are on “American Idol.” According to an ongoing AccessHollywood.com poll, the judges aren’t what attracts viewers to the show. Nearly 70-percent say they tune in to see the finalists, while just 32-percent note they’re more focused on who’s giving the critiques. Next season should be interesting given the fact that Simon, Ellen and possibly Kara have all left the show. A variety of stars — including Jennifer Lopez, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Harry Connick Jr., and Poison’s Bret Michaels — have been mentioned as possible new “Idol” judges, but there has been no official word on the matter. “American Idol” producers are expected to reveal the judges for the upcoming season in early September.

HALF OUR WAKING HOURS SPENT CONSUMING MEDIA
We now spend almost half our waking hours either online, on the phone, or watching television according to a survey. The average adult is awake for 15 hours and 45 minutes every day and 45 percent of that time is spent using a proliferation of technology. As a result many of us are increasingly adept at multi-tasking - with computer users sending emails while listening to music or watching television, or texting and surfing the internet at the same time. As a result some can cram eight hours of media use into little more than seven hours a day. Younger folk aged between 16 and 24 are the most adept at multi-tasking, cramming nearly five hours of media usage into just under two hours a day. Adults watch 212 minutes of video - including television, online clips, on demand programming and DVDs - each day. And media use peaks at 9pm, driven by prime-time television. On average we spend 91 minutes a day listening to the radio, while around 80 minutes a day are spent on text messaging, social networking and emailing.
